The Research School will annually organise at least one national research course in gender research. The Research School will not offer a complete PhD programme, as most students take required courses at their home institution.

The number of courses that students may take at the Research School for Gender Research will depend on the institutional requirements of their PhD programme.

The Research School will organise courses in feminist theory, feminist theory of science and feminist methods, in addition to courses in specific themes. Each student must apply to have courses in feminist theories of science and feminist methods count towards the required coursework in their PhD programme.

The course model will mainly follow the model that has been developed through previous national and Nordic collaborations:

  • 3 day courses
  • 15-20 participants
  • Alternates between lectures and group work
  • Includes group work in which participants make presentations and comment on prepared papers
  • Participants must complete assigned readings ahead of time
  • Course papers are written after the course and approved by the course teachers

The course model may vary somewhat between courses. The course plan and number of credits for each course must be approved by the Board of the Research School.

It is a goal of the Research School to also organise writing courses, dissertation seminars and meetings for advisers.

Funding

The Research School will apply for funds from its member institutions as well as from external sources.

Basic funding is ensured by member institutions paying an annual fee of 20 000/10 000 Norwegian kroner to the institution that holds the Academic Directorship.

The Academic Director and Board are elected for a three year period.
